Welcome to the Sale Barn at The Black Star Ranch.

The following barrel horses are being offered for sale. We have established a routine to keep our horses healthy, fit and capable of performing to their best ability. Each horse is worked on our Electronic Preifert Walker with programmable settings just like a tread mill. Our horses are kept tuned on the barrel pattern focusing on the horse's personal style. We believe that the best barrel horse is a horse that is allowed to be a horse first. Turn out in big pastures and trail riding is something that our horses get to enjoy all throughout the week. We expose our horses to as much as we can on our ranch to help desensitize them such as music, wild animals, traffic noise, steers, objects flying through the air. With routine vet checks and chiropractic work as needed, it is our desire to keep these horses as happy as we are. We focus on maintaining optimal nutrition to enhance their performance in the pen. All of the horses at Black Star are up to date on all teeth floating, shoeing, vaccinations and worming

Our ranch has both an covered arena and an outdoor arena to try these horses utilizing different arena setups. One simulating a jackpot race and the other a rodeo environment. We also offer RV hookups at our covered arena if you are traveling with a horse trailer. We also have plenty hotels in our area that can accommodate you while visiting The Black Star Ranch. Also while here trying horses, we have great Cajun restaurants and many unique Louisiana attractions within 30-45 minutes of our ranch, such as swamp tours, great fishing, golfing, and the New Orleans French Quarters.

"Diva"

13 yr old mare; Driftwood Ike on her papers,  built like a tank. 15.3 hands -Finished 2 D mare at big jackpots, 1D at smaller shows. This is a gorgeous chromed out Palomino mare.  She is a very easy keeper feed and stall wise.  UTD on all vaccines, shoeing, worming and teeth float.  Exercised daily on our Preifert Walker, ridden once a week; finished does not need any more work.  Just point and kick.  She is a push style runner, very cowy and hunts the barrels.  Quiet in the holding pen.  She is ridden in a short shank with twisted mouth piece. This mare recently placed in the 2D in Jacksonville out of 650 entries.  1st show in several years, after being legged back up and tuned for a few months;  She had been bred 2 years prior.  She has a great attitude and a very sweet disposition. Load,leads, ties, travels, no problems. Loves to be groomed.  We used her for our kids camps during grooming, kids loved to braid, brush, glitter all at the same time, nothing  fazes her.  She is stunning.

5 yr old Gray Mare – 15.1 hands; This mare is “something else” – daughter of Preferred Gun, which goes back to Freckles Playboy she is Mito Paint on the bottom side. She wants to be the queen of someone’s Castle.  Unfortunately this 5 yr old has 2 older chicks in the barn that are Queen 1 and Queen 2.  We bought this mare as a 3 yr old. She was started and trained by Lisa Mitchell.  Beautiful gray, built like a tank.  She was trained with a great foundation first, then put on the barrels.  She runs in a rope oring combo with a tie down.  Point and send to your pockets, kick in between.  She is solid with a great deal of room to go.  She has rodeo rodeo rodeo written all over her. 

"Luna"

3 yr old Granddaughter of Frenchmans Guy and Martha Six Moons. 15.1 hands; She is started and loping the pattern at a nice speed for her age.   We have owned her since a weanling. Strong performance pedigree. She is very flashy and full of chrome. She has proven siblings. She has a great foundation. She is extremely fit and very smart, show her once and she picks it up right away.  She has rodeo potential because she is showing signs of being very gritty and the kind of attitude you frequently see as a rodeo horse. She has been hauled to several shows and nothing seems to faze her. She was also used this spring as an early 3 yr old in a demonstration at a Martha Josey Clinic, in an outdoor pen with people, other horses, signs, flags whipping in the wind and she worked like a big girl. She is UTD on everything. This mare will continue her training until sold.

"Rodeo"

3 yr old Grandson of Frenchmans Guy and Dash Ta Fame. 15.3 hands; Strong performance pedigree . Incredibly laid back. Beautiful face, golden palamino with lots of chrome. He is always willing to please . He lopes really nice and smooth. He is currently loping the pattern and we are adding speed as we type this up.   He has been hauled and acts great. He is handled every day, trail rides, loads, ties, UTD on everything. He was bought as a weanling, and has been with us since.
