Clinics available for most school holidays and throughout the summer.  What a great place for your cowgirls and cowboys to spend their day off from school!  Black Star Ranch offers clinics to help build on your basic horsemanship skills.  Our clinics are for youth, ages 5-15, and can range from three to ten days.  Once again, our professional staff comes in to take over where you leave off.  Campers will learn all the ropes of being a cowboy or cowgirl, the history of horse riding, safety around horses, arts and crafts, hay rides and more.

One of the all-time great summer experiences is horseback riding. It's one of the things kids dream about and adults look back on fondly. Imagine peaceful summer mornings spent not only riding horses, but learning about them too, while enjoying nature's beautiful surroundings in a small group setting.

While our camps are highly involved with horsemanship, our Kids Camp focuses on all outside activities. They will be enjoying nature walks in the woods, bird watching, feeding our deer herd. This gives all of the students a chance to be outside and get the exercise they need.

This year we will have new additions to our Ranch! We are expecting new petting animals in our petting zoo! Mini Cows! Mini Horses! Mini Pigs! Our Fainting Goats are ready to meet some kids and get fed!

Horsemanship is not only riding; we have educational classes made fun and entertaining to increase your knowledge of horse management. We highly recommend two or more camp sessions for those serious horse lovers.

Their time at the camp is very active in learning stages for new things. Campers will be doing activities in repetition to help with memory. Campers are teamed up in pairs to one horse for non-riding stable activities such as feeding, cleaning stalls, grooming, classroom activities, and riding lessons during the last couple of days.

In addition to the daily horse care, students will learn about, talking and approaching horses using "horse language", conformation, colors & markings, fitting tack, hooves & shoes, mouths and bits, first aid & safety, boots & bandages, and feed & feeding. These specific classes will be taught in a classroom setting following up with "hands on" ground work with the horses and tack in the barn.

From the program's start, students learn how to handle themselves around horses and how to keep themselves and their horses safe. Students learn how to catch, halter, lead, groom, saddle and bridle. Time is allowed for students to enjoy other activities both indoors and out.

Periodic evaluations are made so that each student has the opportunity to advance as their ability increases. We encourage campers to stay for more than one session, as progress tends to compound with each successive week.

All of our classes are taught inside an arena and round pen and safety of the horse and rider comes first. All students will be required to wear riding helmets when working or mounted on the horse.
