Kris Suard

Owner, Creator and
General Manager of Black Star Ranch

Kris, along with her husband Neil, own and operate together as a team Baby Oil, Inc., Suard Barge Service, Suard Workover, Inc., Black Knight Construction and Texas Injection LLC.  Kris and Neil are also co-owners of Copelands of Houma and Lafayette.

Kris has a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and over 20 years business experience in administration, management, marketing and accounting.

As a child, she had childhood dreams of being a cowgirl; however, she lived in a small town with practically no horse culture so she tabled that dream, only for a while. Then after raising her children into high school and college, she decided it was time to turn a childhood fantasy into a grown woman's delight, hence the beginnings of Black Star Ranch.

Blackstar ---- Kris's favorite color is "black" and the first horse she ever rode as a child was named "Star".

Kris started riding at the age of 37 and has spent an extensive amount of time training with various professional instructors.  Her goal always being to get her skill and riding to a point where she could barrel race on a competitive level.  After clocking nearly 1000 hours in the saddle, she is finally getting competitive and more confident with her riding.  Lesson to learn...anyone can learn to ride at any age with the right amount of determination.

Gary Boquet

Trainer

Gary is a Professional Riding Instructor with 40 years of horsemanship experience.

His specialty is western pleasure riding and reining.

Gary is also the in-house Horse Trainer for Black Star Ranch.

Randi Price

Barn Manager

Randi is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our barns, which includes 58 stalls and approximately 60 horses.  She also give lessons on basic western riding and barrel racing.  Randi also travels with Ms. Kris on all horse purchases for Ms. Kris personal stock and Black Star Ranch sale horses.  She attends various clinics and trains with advanced trainers to enhance her ability to teach all she knows, which has helped make her the fine rider she is today.......that along with she was born with a set of reins in her hands makes her an excellent rider. This girl hasn't met a horse she can't ride............

Nica Orgeron

Office Manager
Executive Assistant to Ms. Kris

Nica currently holds a Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics and has been working for the Suards for six years.  She started riding horses when she was 24 years-old and has been enjoying it ever since.  When people approach her, the most common question asked is "How did you get started with horses?"  Nica's response is, "I was in the right place at the right time."  Never did she dream of such a hobby, but is very grateful for it.  It has taught her that no matter your age, young or old, if you have ambition and courage and put your mind to it, then it's never too late.  Now that she is on Team Black Star, she is whipping and riding and trying to bring home the money!

At the ranch, Nica is in charge of networking five businesses under one roof, as well as, assisting Ms. Kris with all her daily business matters.  She is also responsible for keeping the staff members in line, and anyone who manages a large amount of people knows, that's no easy task.  Wherever you find Ms. Kris, you will normally find Nica.

Ellen Guidry

Ranch Administrator and Breeding Manager

Ellen Guidry joined the Black Star staff after graduating in 2007 from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with a Bachelor of Science Degree.  She is in charge of booking and planning events out on the ranch and coordinating our youth camps.  Although Ellen is mainly responsible for marketing and sales, it's not unusual to find her in the barn or on horseback in the arena.  She is involved in some way with every aspect of Black Star operations.

Ellen has been riding since she was 5 years old and gets her love of horses from her mother.  She has competed throughout high school and college in different barrel racing associations.

Ellen is currently competing on Team Black Star, traveling to Jackpot Barrel Races, NBHA (National Barrel Horse Assn) and WBRA (World Barrel Racing Assn) events.

Ellen is available to answer any questions you may have about Black Star Ranch.  She can assist you in letting Black Star Ranch become part of your personal life and also a recreational asset to your business.

I have had a bad case of horse love for 40+ years.  My love of horses and animals is inherited from my father, an equine veterinarian.  I spent my childhood following my dad around on breeding ranches in Oklahoma.  I have spent most of my life involved with horses, whether it was assisting my dad, showing and training my family's horses, working in professional training barns, giving riding lessons or riding for pleasure.  As a teenager and young adult, I showed my horses in a variety of disciplines throughout the United States and Canada, earning numerous national and regional awards.  I have had the pleasure and experience of working with a variety of horse breeds and have learned to love and appreciate each for their differences.
